Tax time is fast approaching, so we thought it would be a good time to help you by outlining the main steps to follow when declaring your Birdee securities account!

DECLARE YOUR BIRDEE ACCOUNTS IN BELGIUM

👉 Belgian taxpayers have to communicate the accounts they have opened abroad to the Central Contact Point ('Point de Contact Central' or PCC in French) managed by the National Bank of Belgium.

👉 Therefore, the latest at the same time as submitting your tax return, you'll have to communicate your Birdee account opened in Luxembourg to the PCC.

👉 You will find the declaration form and all the practical details concerning the communication procedure on the website www.nbb.be

👉 You must also mention the existence of your Birdee account in your annual tax return.

The account number to be filled in is the identifier of your portfolio. This reference is indicated in the email we sent you when you made your first payment (a succession of letters interspersed with a dash on the abcd-ef model).

It is useful to remember here that a hundred or so countries have committed to exchanging numerous banking and financial information annually. The Belgian administration will thus know the assets held in Luxembourg and in many other countries by all Belgian residents.

In this context, Birdee has to report annually all portfolios held by its clients on the previous 31 December. This reporting will be done via the tax identification number (TIN), which in Belgium is your national register number.

DECLARE YOUR BIRDEE ACCOUNTS IN France

You will be able to file your tax return from April 2023: feel free to put a reminder around 6 April in your calendar and copy/paste this info to make it easier for you!

This article only concerns the declaration of your Birdee securities account. If you have a life insurance policy with us, Cardif Lux Vie sent you the necessary information for your declaration a few days ago.

👉 You must fill in, per portfolio, a form 3916 declaration annex securities account abroad, box n°3. The account numbers to be filled in are the references you mention in your payments.

👉 You will then have to fill in form 2042, the main tax return, and more specifically the headings 'Your dividend income 2DC' and 'Capital gains and losses heading 3VG and 3 VH' :
- If realised capital gains + realised losses > 0 then report the total in box 3VG
- If realised gains + realised losses < 0 then report the total in box 3VH

👉 If you complete the box 3VG or 3VH correctly, you won't need to complete form 2074: annexed tax return of capital gains and losses.

👉 You don't need to complete the 2047 return as there is no withholding tax on dividends.
